Academic Achievement

Academic Achievement is a research-based program that provides resources, strategies, and practices that enable all learners to have an equal opportunity for success spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially in the general education classroom by addressing barriers to and promoting engagement in learning and teaching.  Staffed with two full-time Academic Achievement Specialists, our program serves more than 80 students with a wide variety of needs. 

The Academic Achievement Center is an academic intervention room that is open to students during their flex block who have been identified as academically struggling. They will meet with an Academic Achievement Specialist who will use targeted intervention strategies to support the student's success.

Students are encouraged to meet with National Honors Society tutors during their flex blocks. During each flex block, National Honors Society members make themselves available to provide additional tutoring to students in need of academic assistance. No appointments are necessary. The NHS tutors are easily identifiable by a specially designated table in the flex area. 

In lieu of a flex period, identified students meet with an Academic Achievement Specialist in a study skills class for the first semester. Comprised of mostly freshmen students, this class is designed to develop the necessary organizational and study skills needed to succeed in a high school environment. Students are typically identified by their High School Placement Tests, eighth-grade teacher recommendations, and medical and psychological evaluations. 

For our students who need regular interventions to perform to their full potential, we build individualized accommodation plans. Under normal circumstances, in order to receive an accommodation plan we require an up-to-date (completed within the past five years) psychological and educational evaluation or qualifying documentation like a physician's letter.
